About The Artist

A life written between cultures

Born in Bulgaria in 1979 and relocated to Istanbul in 1989, Nilgün Aneliya grew up between cultures. That movement shaped the layered emotional depth of her practice and eventually led her to the meditative language of calligraphy.

Her formal education began in Ceramic Engineering at Afyon Kocatepe University, yet her artistic center emerged under the mentorship of master calligrapher Ethem Çalışkan. That apprenticeship brought discipline, philosophy, and refinement into her creative life.

“I was raw, I was cooked, I was burned.”
Creative Disciplines

An artist practice with texture, elegance, and spectacle

From intimate hand-lettering to large visual statements on glass and boards, her work feels ceremonial, tactile, and unmistakably alive.

Calligraphy

Traditional technique transformed into refined, contemporary compositions with intimacy, rhythm, and authority.

Chalkboard Lettering

Editorial elegance meets hand-crafted storytelling for menus, events, interiors, and atmospheric branding.

Window Painting

Expressive glass artworks that turn storefronts and spatial surfaces into theatrical moments of beauty.

Artistic Philosophy

Every culture leaves a trace like handwriting

Inspired by migration and the marks left by human movement through history, Nilgün sees every culture as a unique script. Her work bridges traditions and carries ancient calligraphy into a global, contemporary visual context.
